#1 At one public school down in Texas, a 12-year-old girl named Sarah Bustamantes was recently arrested for spraying herself with perfume.

#2 A 13-year-old student at a school in Albuquerque, New Mexico was recently arrested by police for burping in class.

#3 Another student down in Albuquerque was forced to strip down to his underwear while five adults watched because he had $200 in his pocket. The student was never formally charged with doing anything wrong.

#4 A security guard at one school in California broke the arm of a 16-year-old girl because she left some crumbs on the floor after cleaning up some cake that she had spilled.

#5 One teenage couple down in Houston poured milk on each other during a squabble while they were breaking up. Instead of being sent to see the principal, they were arrested and sent to court.

#6 In early 2010, a 12-year-old girl at a school in Forest Hills, New York was arrested by police and marched out of her school in handcuffs just because she doodled on her desk. “I love my friends Abby and Faith” was what she reportedly scribbled on her desk.

#7 A 6-year-old girl down in Florida was handcuffed and sent to a mental facility after throwing temper tantrums at her elementary school.

#8 One student down in Texas was reportedly arrested by police for throwing paper airplanes in class.

#9 A 17-year-old honor student in North Carolina named Ashley Smithwick accidentally took her father’s lunch with her to school. It contained a small paring knife which he would use to slice up apples. So what happened to this standout student when the school discovered this? The school suspended her for the rest of the year and the police charged her with a misdemeanor.

#10 In Allentown, Pennsylvania a 14-year-old girl was tasered in the groin area by a school security officer even though she had put up her hands in the air to surrender.

#11 Down in Florida, an 11-year-old student was arrested, thrown in jail and charged with a third-degree felony for bringing a plastic butter knife to school.

#12 Back in 2009, an 8-year-old boy in Massachusetts was sent home from school and was forced to undergo a psychological evaluation because he drew a picture of Jesus on the cross.

#13 A police officer in San Mateo, California blasted a 7-year-old special education student in the face with pepper spray because he would not quit climbing on the furniture.

#14 In America today, even 5-year-old children are treated brutally by police. The following is from a recent article that described what happened to one very young student in Stockton, California a while back…

“Earlier this year, a Stockton student was handcuffed with zip ties on his hands and feet, forced to go to the hospital for a psychiatric evaluation and was charged with battery on a police officer. That student was 5 years old.”

#15 At one school in Connecticut, a 17-year-old boy was thrown to the floor and tasered five times because he was yelling at a cafeteria worker.

#16 A teenager in suburban Dallas was forced to take on a part-time job after being ticketed for using foul language in one high school classroom. The original ticket was for $340, but additional fees have raised the total bill to $637.

#18 A 6-year-old boy was recently charged with sexual battery for some “inappropriate touching” during a game of tag at one elementary school in the San Francisco area.

Alex (1976 – September 6, 2007) was an African Grey Parrot and the subject of a thirty-year (1977–2007) experiment by animal psychologist Irene Pepperberg, initially at the University of Arizona and later at Harvard University and Brandeis University. Pepperberg bought Alex in a regular pet shop when he was about one year old. The name Alex is an acronym for Avian Language EXperiment, but Pepperberg later cited the name as meaning Avian Learning EXperiment to evoke further acceptance in her research field, a then touchy topic (explained in her book, Alex & Me). His successor was Griffin.

Before Pepperberg’s work with Alex, it was widely believed in the scientific community that a large primate brain was needed to handle complex problems related to language and understanding and that birds were not considered to be intelligent as their only common use of communication was of mimicking and the repetition of sounds to interact with each other. However, Alex’s accomplishments indicated that birds may be able to reason on a basic level and use words creatively. Pepperberg wrote that Alex’s intelligence was on a par with that of dolphins and great apes. She also reported that Alex had the intelligence of a five-year-old human and had not even reached his full potential by the time he died. She said that the bird had the emotional level of a human two-year-old at the time of his death.

Alex’s training used a model/rival technique, where the student (Alex) observes trainers interacting. One of the trainers models the desired student behavior, and is seen by the student as a rival for the other trainer’s attention. The trainer and model/rival exchange roles so the student can see that the process is interactive. During times when Pepperberg and an assistant were having a conversation and made mistakes, Alex would correct them.

This technique helped Pepperberg succeed with Alex where other scientists had failed in facilitating two-way communication with parrots. In later years, Alex sometimes assumed the role of one of Pepperberg’s assistants by acting as the “model” and “rival” in helping to teach a fellow parrot in the lab. Alex sometimes practiced words when he was alone.

Pepperberg was conservative in her descriptions of Alex’s accomplishments, not claiming that he could use “language” but instead saying that he used a two-way communications code. Listing Alex’s accomplishments in 1999, Pepperberg said he could identify 50 different objects and recognize quantities up to six; that he could distinguish seven colors and five shapes, and understand the concepts of “bigger”, “smaller”, “same”, and “different”, and that he was learning “over” and “under”. Alex passed increasingly more difficult tests measuring whether humans have achieved Piaget’s Substage 6 object permanence. Alex showed surprise and anger when confronted with a nonexistent object or one different from what he had been led to believe was hidden during the tests.

Alex had a vocabulary of about 150 words, but was exceptional in that he appeared to have understanding of what he said. For example, when Alex was shown an object and was asked about its shape, color, or material, he could label it correctly. He could understand that a key was a key no matter what its size or color, and could figure out how the key was different from others. He asked what color he was, and learned “grey” after being told the answer six times.

Alex understood the turn-taking of communication and often the syntax used in language. He called an apple a “banerry”, which Pepperberg thought to be a combination of “banana” and “cherry”, two fruits he was more familiar with.

Alex could even add, to a limited extent, correctly giving the number of like objects on a tray. Pepperberg said that if he could not count, the data could be interpreted as his being able to quickly and accurately estimate the number of something, better than humans can. When he was tired of being tested, he would say “Wanna go back,” meaning he wanted to go back to his cage, and in general, he would request where he wanted to be taken by saying “Wanna go…”, protest if he was taken to a different place, and sit quietly when taken to his preferred spot. He was not trained to say where he wanted to go, but picked it up from being asked where he’d like to be taken. If the researcher displayed annoyance, Alex tried to defuse it with the phrase, “I’m sorry.” If he said “Wanna banana,” but was offered a nut instead, he stared in silence, asked for the banana again, or took the nut and threw it at the researcher or otherwise displayed annoyance, before requesting the item again. When asked questions in the context of research testing, he gave the correct answer approximately 80% of the time.

The American Horror Story House is on the Market!

If you’re in the market for a charming, turn-of-the-century house that features a spacious attic great for rubber suit storage, you are in luck! The house Ryan Murphy hand-picked for season one of American Horror Story is on the market, and we got an exclusive (and very creepy!) tour by realtor Joe Babajian. So how much is it? And what’s this about real ghosts inside? The listing price is…$17 million! Babajian tells us the house was listed for $10 million before Murphy snatched it up for AHS production. However, he believes it will go for more now that it has been featured on the FX series.

Built by architect Alfred Rosenheim in 1902, the AHS house is 14,000 square feet, with six bedrooms, four floors, a basement (you do remember there’s a basement, right?), and is in a neighborhood near the Hancock Park area of Los Angeles. One thing you might not know: The house features a full chapel, which was CGI’d out of the shots on American Horror Story. In the 1950s, the chapel was built while Catholic nuns were living there. According to Babajian, there are stories of actual ghosts living in the house. And you gotta check out our exclusive video tour to see which one we spotted, as well as what the house really looks like, and why we’re totally fine never stepping foot in that basement again. Creepy!

On 21 January 1958, Charles Starkweather murdered the family of his 14-year-old girlfriend, Caril Ann Fugate - her mother, father and younger sister. The couple then fled and for the next week 1,200 National Guardsmen and police combed Nebraska and Wyoming in search of them. Before he was finally cornered, Starkweather shot or stabbed a further seven people. He claimed that the killings had begun when Caril Ann’s parents had made fun of him. Initially, Starkweather claimed Caril was a hostage, but he later changed his story. She was sentenced to life and was released in 1977. Aged 19 Starkweather had a one-way trip to the electric chair in Nebraska on 25 June 1959. He had modelled himself on James Dean and in at least one respect he was correct: they both died young.

There Are No Good Cops

There are no good cops anymore. They’re all bad. Even this former New Orleans cop says 70% of his department should be fired or indicted.

Don’t email me about your best friend from high school who you swear is a good cop. He’s not a good cop. Neither is the cop who lives down the street who has the fun July 4^th party every year. Your cop uncle isn’t a good cop either. They’re all bad cops. They might all be good people, great people, when you hang out with them on their days off, but being a good person outside the job does not translate into being a good cop.

If your cop friend has ever ticketed or arrested someone for a victimless crime he’s a bad cop and the poor souls he arrested or ticketed were so for committing acts that harmed nobody.

Imagine if a normal citizen started going around acting like a typical cop. Imagine a normal-looking guy in regular clothes handcuffing people, throwing them in the back of his vehicle, and then locking them up in his dungeon because he doesn’t approve of them consuming marijuana, carrying a handgun on their person for self-defense without government permission, or even fishing without a license. Imagine if this guy was demanding that people who don’t wear their seatbelts give him money. Imagine if this person was claiming the right to use violent force against anyone who didn’t comply and the right to kill anyone who physically fought back.

How to make an exit bag.
A suicide bag, also known as an exit bag, is a device consisting of a large plastic bag with a drawcord used to commit suicide. It is usually used in conjunction with an inert gas like helium or nitrogen, which prevents the panic, sense of suffocation and struggling during unconsciousness (the hyperpanic alarm response) usually caused by the deprivation of oxygen in the presence of carbon dioxide. This method also makes the direct cause of death difficult to trace if the bag and gas canister are removed before the death is reported. Right-to-die groups recommend this form of suicide as certain, fast, and painless, according to a 2007 study.

Still dazed after being anaesthetised for three hours, a pedigree pet is hauled upright to show off its new tattoo.

But horrified animal rights campaigners last night slammed the sick fad in Moscow as barbaric – and fear it could catch on among wealthy pet owners in the West.

An RSPCA spokesman said: “We are totally against using animals for purely cosmetic reasons just on the owner’s whim. Clearly the animal has no say in the matter.

“We do not believe in using pets as fashion accessories. It shows no respect for the animal whatsoever. So far we have only heard about this practice happening overseas – and we hope it doesn’t spread.”

There was no electricity in the dark house so the police officers conducted their inspection with oil lamps, lanterns, and flashlights.The place looked like it had not been clean or tidied in years, there were piles of rubbish everywhere. The few rooms that weren’t nailed off were littered with books, old papers, magazines, utensils, tin cans, cartons and a lot of other junk. What those police officers also found in that house is in the extreme. In the house they found - two shin bones, four human noses, a quart can converted into a tom-tom by skin stretched over both top and bottom, a bowl made from the inverted half of a human skull, nine ‘death masks’ (from the well preserved skin from the faces of women), ten female heads with the tops sawn off above the eyebrows, bracelets of human skin, a purse made with a handle of human skin, sheath for a knife made in human skin, a pair of leggings made from human skin, four chairs with the seats being replaced by strips of human skin, a shoe box containing nine salted vulvas of which his mothers was painted silver, a hanging human head, a lampshade covered with human skin, a shirt made of human skin, a number of shrunken heads (Ed always joked that he had a collection of shrunken heads), two skulls for Gein’s bedposts, a pair of human lips hanging from string, Ed’s full woman body suit constructed with human skin and complete with mask and breasts, Bernice Worden’s heart in a pan on the stove, and the refrigerator which was stacked with human organs. The bodies of 15 different women had been mutilated to provide Gein’s trophies. It is also said that sometimes Gein brought house gifts of fresh venison to his neighbours although Gein said he had never shot a deer in his life.

Police and U.S. Marshals in Florida have taken a former Bridgeport resident into custody on charges that he used an ax to kill a man, then ate a portion of his victim's brain and one of his eyeballs.

Tyree Lincoln Smith, 35, whose last known address was Atlantic Street in Bridgeport, is charged with killing Angel Gonzalez, whose decomposed body was found on the third floor of an abandoned building at 216 Brooks St. in Bridgeport on Jan. 20.

Gonzalez suffered significant wounds to his face and head, and there was blood spattered on a nearby wall, police said.

Chicago, IL: Man kills mother over Avril Lavigne tickets. »

Rob Lyons stood before a DuPage County judge Friday and repeatedly confessed to murdering his mother.

She had it coming, he said.

“I stabbed her. I hit her with a cognac bottle. I poured chemicals on her,” Lyons said. “I completely lost control and I didn’t stop until she was dead.”

The 39-year-old Carol Stream man is facing up to 100 years in prison when he is sentenced Monday for the March 2008 murder of Linda Bolek, 61.

In his final statement in front of Judge Kathryn Creswell, Lyons admitted Friday that he carried out the grisly slaying but claimed the victim was to blame.

“My mom seriously provoked me with her relentless verbal abuse,” he said. “I told her I would never take her verbal abuse again. Apparently that was too much to ask.”

Prosecutors have said Lyons hatched a plan to kill Bolek after she refused to ask a friend for skybox tickets to see pop singer Avril Lavigne.

The last person publicly guillotined in France, Eugene Weidmann was born at Frankfurt-am-Main in Germany on 5 February 1908. A career criminal, he led a gang of teenage thieves before moving to Paris and progressing to more serious crimes, including six murders. He stole cars, and while on test drives, would shoot the owners in the back of the neck. He also strangled one victim. He was arrested on 8 December 1937 after a shoot-out at his house in St Cloud. When asked if he had any remorse for his victims he replied, “Remorse, what for? I didn’t even know them.” He confessed to police that he and his confederates had planned to kidnap wealthy people and demand high ransoms. At 4.50 a.m. on 17 June 1939 Weidmann was beheaded in Rue Georges Clemenceau, Versailles. The day before every vantage point overlooking the guillotine site was rented out at fantastic prices. From his cell Weidmann could hear the hammering of his guillotine being erected and the laughter of the revellers in cafes, waiting for the entertainment to begin.

Due to delays and miscalculations the decapitation took place in daylight rather than the break of dawn, which allowed photographers to take clear pictures. Weidmann was allowed a few puffs on a cigar and a mouthful of rum in his cell. The bascule, or see-saw plank to which the victim is strapped then tipped and loaded under the blade, had been badly adjusted and it took three attempts to get Weidmann’s neck into the crescent shaped head-holder correctly. Ultimately the assistant executioner had to pull Weidmann forward by his hair and ears. As the blade finally dropped it was accompanied by the eerie whistling sound that is heard at beheadings. The photographs so shocked the public that, a week later, a statute was passed that all executions henceforth would be carried out in private.

This is the mummified corpse of Si Quey, the most famous serial killer of Thai history. His corpse is on display at the Museum of Forensic Medicine Niyomsane Songkran. Si Quey was a Chinese immigrant who moved to Thailand in 1944. Si Quey raped, murdered and then ate the heart and liver of more than half a dozen male children, he beleived that by cannibalising parts of his victims he would become immortal. He was captured and executed by hanging in 1950. After the autopsy, the corpse was filled and covered with paraffin wax to preserve it. Over the years, Si Quey became a bogeyman for the Thai children, parents would scare their misbehaving children by telling them: “Behave yourself or Si Ouey will come for you.”

Mark Bolan was a self made pop icon, and one of the original Glam Rock stars in England. Born Marc Feld, he had a brief career as a superstar with his band T-Rex, but was eventually reduced to hosting a Children’s TV series. On the night of September 16, 1977, Marc had dinner with his love Gloria Jones, with whom he had a 2-year-old son Rolan. After much merriment, Gloria got behind the wheel of her purple Mini 1275 GT (license plate FOX 66IL) to drive Marc and herself home. This was about 4am. Shortly thereafter, the Mini was traveling on Queens Ride, at the southern edge of Barnes Common, south London. The Mini left the road as it crossed a hump backed bridge, shot through the fence and smashed into a sycamore tree. Marc’s side took the impact, and he was thrown into the back of the car, and killed instantly. Gloria was unconscious but alive.

Official Cause of Death: Shock and Hemorrhage due to multiple injuries consistent with Road Traffic Accident. Passenger in a private motor car which collided with a tree. Accidental. Mourners at his funeral at Golders Green Crematorium included Rod Stewart, Elton John and David Bowie. Flowers and wreaths were sent from Keith Moon, Gary Glitter and Cliff Richard. Roy Lee “Rocky” Dennis (December 4, 1961 - October 4, 1978) was an American boy afflicted with craniodiaphyseal dysplasia, an extremely rare, sclerotic bone disorder. The condition usually results in neurological disorders and death during childhood. His body was donated to UCLA Medical Center after he died. His life was the basis for the 1985 feature drama film Mask.

Rocky Dennis was born December 4, 1961 in Glendora, California, to mother Florence “Rusty” Tullis and father Roy Dennis. At the age of 4, Dennis was diagnosed with craniodiaphyseal dysplasia, also known as CDD or lionitis, an extremely rare disease occurring in approximately 1 in every 22 million births, with fewer than 20 recorded cases. CDD is a bone disorder that causes calcium to build up in the skull, disfiguring the facial features and reducing life expectancy.

Doctors informed his mother that the abnormal calcium deposits in his skull would push his eyes toward the edges of his head, twist his nose out of shape, cause his eyesight and hearing to fail and, if the handful of cases on record were any indication, result in tremendous pressure that would destroy his brain before he was seven.

Dennis experienced problems with eyesight and hearing along with painful headaches, but was able to do most of the things doctors told him he would never accomplish, such as learn to read. They told him that his poor eyesight, which made him legally blind, meant that he would never read a book. However, he entered school at the age of six, despite disapproval by many teachers, and although experiencing a slow start (he spent two years in the first grade), he was able to make reasonable progress thereafter.

Rocky and his mother lived for a time in Covina, California (Grandview Avenue) where Rocky attended Ben Lomond Elementary School.
